Legacy

The legacies we leave behind comes in many forms whether it be a fulfilling career, an extended family, contributions to communities, financial assets, and more. The memorials that accompany a Veteran's life are also an important legacy, so that family members, friends, and others can understand and appreciate the unique Veteran experience.

Self-Authored Content

VA's Veterans Legacy Memorial, the largest online memorial site dedicated to America's Veterans, now offers the opportunity for you, the Veteran, to privately provide your own images, autobiographies, military and life timelines, and historical documents, so that when you pass away, your contributions will be automatically added to your publicly-visible VLM page, as content authored by you.

Who Can Use This Feature?

Currently this feature is open to those Veterans who have been approved for pre-need eligibility for burial in a VA national cemetery. Pre-need is a process where you can apply to find out in advance if you can be buried in a VA national cemetery, and it can help make the burial planning process easier for your family members in their time of need.

Already Approved for Pre-Need?

Login to VLM and you'll be taken to your own behind-the-scenes Living Veteran page where you can contribute or remove content as often as you want. Only you and VLM Administrators will be able to see this page - it will NOT be publicly visible. All content you submit will be moderated to ensure it complies with the VLM User Policy, before it's posted to your private Living Veteran page.

Haven't Applied Yet?

Click the button below to get the process started. The turnaround time for pre-need is fast, and if you provide an email address as part of your application, you'll receive a personalized email inviting you to get started on your Living Veteran page, or you can return here to VLM to get started, after you receive your pre-need approval notification from VA.

Not Sure if You're Approved?

Give it a shot by logging in to VLM. If you are already approved for pre-need, your login credentials will take you to your Living Veteran page.

Regardless of your pre-need status, you can use VLM any time to search and find Veterans and contribute memories to their pages, either as a logged-in member or as a guest.
